The article analyzes the formation and development of a nation through the prism of the linguistic foundations of this process. It is shown that language, being the fundamental basis of cultural identity, accumulates the sum of knowledge, accumulated experience, traditions, which, having passed through the sieve of time and history, characterize this or that nationality, the peculiarity of its self-identification and continuity from generation to generation. It also shows that in the process of its development, language becomes one of the main factors of «recognition» and self-presentation of the nation. In this regard, the main thing from the point of view of the objectives of the article is the analysis and study of modern trends in the formation of language policy in the process of forming a nation.
