Abstract

As a result of the development of modern technologies, the interaction between the government and society is moving into a digital format. There are more opportunities for feedback, more varieties of online citizen participation forms, and the influence of modern mass media and social networks is increasing. This leads to changes in the image of power and the quality of political communication. Therefore, the research question of the article is how digital opportunities affect the political perception of Kazakhstanis. Theoretical works and applied research on political communication were studied, the introduction of digital tools of political communication was analyzed, the role of trust in traditional and modern mass media in shaping public opinion and political involvement was presented. The research is based on the method of analysis and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative secondary data. The conducted study reflects the information needs and values of citizens: easy access to objective information, including that related to government; prompt receipt of information about events in a convenient format; building democratic «horizontal» communication links; expanding opportunities for voting on the Internet and expressing one’s opinion; effective use of fact-checking.
