Any state needs a guiding idea as a reference point, and a unitary state needs a national idea. In Soviet times, one of the good things in the Great Steppe, the material and spiritual wealth of the Kazakh people, which flourished in the Great Steppe, was not sufficiently studied. One of them is the national idea, which expresses the thoughts, aspirations, dreams, principles of the nation. In general, a lot has been written about ideas and ideology in socio-philosophical literature and encyclopaedias. But in the Soviet era, which saw its future in an internationalist society, the issue of national idea, national ideology was not given due attention.
In the article, the topic of national idea is based on many scientific studies of professor A.Seydimbek by analysing his works, which analyses the history, foundations and essence, evolution, main features in the early twentieth century and the current situation of the national idea. In addition, Seydimbek’s profound views on the national consciousness, way of life, religion, mentality, language and culture of the Kazakh people, their significance in the context of the national idea and national existence will be analysed.
