Abstract

In the context of nation-building, both the integration and disintegration functions of religion are manifested. In this regard, according to the observations of some scientists in the field of national studies, Islam as a religious and ideological system is incompatible with nationalism and nation-building policy. However, as world practice shows, the relationship between religion and the national state depends on many factors, including the historical, socio-cultural, political and ideological characteristics of a particular state. The nature of the interaction of these phenomena, depending on the above factors, can acquire both confrontational and cooperative features. In this article, the authors tried to analyze the interaction of Islam and nationalism, as well as models of nation-building on the example of several Muslim countries in the postcolonial period.
