This article explores the dynamics of industrial development in Central Asia within the context of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), focusing on the interaction between national strategies of the Central Asian republics and China’s economic and geopolitical ambitions. By examining key projects, policy frameworks, and foreign investment trends, the article sheds light on how Central Asian countries strive to balance their sovereign industrial agendas with external influences, particularly from China. It also discusses the role of Russia, the USA, the EU, Turkiye and multilateral development institutions in this geopolitical balancing act.
