Abstract

The article examines the problem of alienation in the philosophy of E. V. Ilyenkov, A. P. Ogurtsov, and G. S. Batishchev. It aims to identify the common foundations and differences in their interpretations and development of Karl Marx’s concept of alienation. The methodology combines textual and comparative analysis within a historical study of philosophy. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between alienation, objectification, deobjectification, and reification, as well as to the integrity of human activity. Ilyenkov’s contribution involves clarifying the semantic distinctions between categories of alienation and revealing the problem’s world-historical character. Ogurtsov’s account centres on the relationship between the institutionalization of social life and the functionalization of the individual. Batishchev associates alienation with the disruption of the unity of objectification and deobjectification, activity and communication, tracing its manifestations in culture and scientific inquiry. The findings indicate that alienation extends beyond economic relations and that changes in property ownership alone are insufficient to overcome it. The theoretical significance of these approaches lies in their capacity to explain the fragmentation of human activity, the reification of knowledge, and constraints on individual autonomy. The article outlines prospects for applying them to alienation under the digital mediation of work, cognition, and communication.
